客家土楼，也称客家土围楼、客家围屋。客家土楼是以土作墙而建造起来的集体建筑，呈圆形、半圆形、方形、四角形、五角形、交椅形、畚箕形等，各具特色，其中以圆形的最引人注目。
土楼属于集体性建筑，其最大的特点在于其造型大，无论从远处还是走到跟前，土楼都以其庞大的单体式建筑令人震惊，其体积之大，堪称民居之最。
土楼民居以种姓聚族而群居特点和它的建造特色都与客家人的历史有密切相关。客家人原是中原一带汉民，因战乱、饥荒等各种原因被迫南迁，至南宋时历近千年，辗转万里，在闽粤赣三省边区形成客家民系。在他们被迫离乡背井，流离他乡的过程中，经历了千辛万苦，他们都有深切的体会，不论是长途跋涉的流离失所，还是新到一处人生地不熟的居地，许多困难都得依靠自己人团结互助、同心协力去解决，共度难关。因此，他们每到一处，本姓本家人总要聚居在一起。这样也就形成了客家民居独特的建筑形式——土楼。
既无开头又无结尾的圆楼土楼不但奇特，而且富于神秘感，坚实牢固。楼中堆积粮食、饲养牲畜；有水井，若需御敌，只需将大门一关，几名青壮年守护大门，土楼则像坚强的大堡垒，妇孺老幼尽可高枕无忧。
“天园地方”自古就是“天人合一”的标准注解，土楼圆的外形与天穹呼应，宛自天然，震撼人心。而于民宅中的体现更是将阴阳和风水充分平衡，完美的融入生活。土楼的居民崇尚伦理道德，敬宗睦族，崇文重教，勤俭耕读，刻苦耐劳，平等相待，热情好客。每一个角度，都透露着和谐和幸福。
